2019 Local Author Event

The authors are coming! The authors are coming! Free your calendar and join the library as we celebrate authors from near and far. You will be able to shop, chat with authors, get a beverage, and have some appetizers.There will be author readings, meet and greets, and an opportunity for you to ask any questions you would like at our author panel. Check back for more information on which author's will be here. This will be our first ever event of this kind and we are so excited to share the experience with you!

I've written three detective novels.  One was released in September 2018, one in April 2019 and the last of the trilogy will be released I the fall of 2019.  I am currently working on a family fiction book that will be released in late 2019 or early 2020.

Crystal Deeds

Crystal D. Deeds, Author of I Have Better Plans for You, has been married to her highschool sweetheart for 32 years, and is the mother of two. She has volunteered for over 20 years in many ministries, and currently volunteers as a chaplain with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team and at a local prison, and small group leader at her church. Since the release of I Have Better Plans for You in 2013, she has lead countless small groups using her book as a resource. 

Crystal has a passion to help hurting people find hope and healing through the steps she shares in her book and with lessons learned from the bible. When she was young and experiencing abuse and trauma as a child, she often struggled with feeling like she was a mistake and her life had no purpose. Suicide was something she considered many times. It was her faith in God that saved her and gave her life hope and purpose. In her book, she shares her story of how God healed her step by step, taught her how to have hope in every circumstance, and how He revealed His purpose in her life.

Cindy Ladage

Cindy is a freelance writer and a member of NATJA. Besides writing travel stories she also writes for collectible publications and has authored a couple fiction books and co-authored three children's books. Cindy's latest release is When Matilda Turned Back Time released in April of 2015.

D. L. Andersen

D.L. Andersen began dabbling in historical fiction before the current
interest in the publishing industry took hold. A desire to write stories
she wanted to read, but no one had yet written, along with a trip to a
local historic site, ultimately led to the publication of her first novel,
Across Unstill Waters: the first book in the Stephenson House Chronicles.
The second book in the series is currently in editing stages for
publication later this year. She is a Red Ribbon Winner from the Wishing Shelf Awards in the UK and earned a BA in education and history from Concordia University, Chicago. Currently she lives in Southern Illinois with her husband, two dogs and a cat.

Elizabeth Donald

Elizabeth Donald is a dark fiction writer fond of things that go chomp in the night. She is a three-time winner of the Darrell Award for speculative fiction, finalist for the Prism Award and has been a frequent speaker and contributing essayist on fiction writing and journalism ethics for more than a decade. She is the author of the Nocturnal Urges and Blackfire novel series, founder of the Literary Underworld author cooperative and chairman of the Eville Writers, as well as president of the St. Louis Society of Professional Journalists and a member of the SPJ Ethics Commission. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in media studies at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where she is a teaching assistant. She is also a freelance journalist, editor and photographer. In her spare time, she has no spare time.

BADGER'S LEGACY is the first book authored by Joe Leonard. Joe is married, and has two children. Joe is also 41 years old. Joe has maintained a quiet life in central Illinois while being a help to his community for over twenty years by being a volunteer firefighter. In addition to that Joe has maintained a EMT-B license to enhance what he can do for 9 years. When Joe is relaxing he enjoys science fiction, texas holdem poker, studying the history of warfare, and the occassional paintball in the summer months. John Dunphy

John J. Dunphy's non-fiction works include Lewis and Clark's Illinois Volunteers, From Christmas to Twelfth Night in Southern Illinois, Abolitionism and the Civil War in Southwestern Illinois and Unsung Heroes of the Dachau Trials: The Investigative Work of the U.S. Army 7708 War Crimes Group, 1945-1947.  His works of poetry include Touching Each Tree, Old Soldiers Fading Away, Dark Nebulaeand Stellar Possibilities.  He also writes a weekly column for The Telegraph and owns The Second Reading Book Shop in Alton.

Libby T. Gregg, a native of Sylacauga, AL, has worked in the banking, medical, and insurance industries until her retirement in 2012.  She is the author of two children’s books and belongs to The Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators.   She has also written a book of inspirational poetry, “Love All Around” which encompasses the many types of love God has given to us.  Libby and her husband, Audie, live in Troy, IL where she enjoys spending time with her daughter and three grandchildren as well as volunteering in her church and community.  Her passion to share the love of writing poetry and children’s books is reflected in her work.

Ty Bechel

John Smith

John served twenty-five years in the military, completing his tour as an award winning journalist in the Air Force Reserve. After military retirement, he bought a Harley and became a regular contributor to a variety of local motorcycle publications in California and international magazines. He later returned to Illinois where he finished his civilian career. After retiring for a second time, he accepted the challenge to write books and stories for publications. Being a short story writer, he published two books of dark fiction horror stories as well as coordinating and publishing an anthology involving seventeen writers from across the United States. He has also published three short stories on Kindle. Tainted Blood, his first novel, was published in 2017. Two new novelettes Death’s Redemption (2018) and a second, Heart of a Dragon (2018), are available on Amazon and multiple e-book platforms.  John is also drafting a novelette and a novel. All of his works are available on Amazon and Kindle.

Steve Upchurch

Steve Upchurch has  been the lead pastor at The Rock Church in Centralia, IL. for the past eleven years.  After spending twenty-eight years in plant management, Steve answered the call to ministry at the age of fifty-five years old! Steve has been married to Jennifer for 25 years, and they have a combined family of one daughter, one son, one step-son, one granddaughter, and one son-in-law. (And two dogs - Rocky and Jazzy)
Most Recent Work: The most recent book is book #2 of a planned series that started with the first book being about a ten year old boy and a quirky angel that shows up in his dreams and takes him back to witness Bible stories first-hand. The first book covers the book of Genesis in the Bible, and the most recent book cover from Exodus through Joshua. And in the second book Matthew and Andy are joined by Pete the parrot, and Dorcus (Dork) the donkey!

Shane Bowen

Shane Bowen is a software developer by day and author by night. He is the owner of Out The Window Books, a small publishing company located in Fairview Heights, IL. He finished his first novel in late 2009 and has been writing since then. He opened the publishing company in 2016 in hopes of helping more authors get published. Cain - Runnel City is his most recent work and is based on the Biblical character of the same name.

Andy Dykeman

Andy Dykeman was born and raised in the quirky river town of Alton. He discovered writing while in high school. His adventures as a punk rock drummer in Judge Nothing, chimney sweep and autopsy assistant have created many stories to share. Dykeman is working as a chiropractic physician in East Alton while living in St. Louis.

Sara Gawlowski

 Sara Gawlowski is a fiction writer who lives in Springfield, Illinois where she was born and reared.  Her passion for writing began as a child and only became stronger as she entered adulthood.  The Orakul Prophecy is her first published book; the first in the Oil & Water series.  She is engaged to be married and the proud cat mom of six furry children.
